The Creggan landscape is rich in ancient Raised and Blanket bogland. Formed over thousands of years since the Ice Age, the bogs provide an ideal environment for a wide variety of flora and fauna, some of which are extremely rare.
Of special interest is the Black Bog, one of the largest remaining intact Raised Bogs in Ireland. Pollen records show that the vegetation has grown on the Black Bog for over 7000 years.
