The Community Relations programme at An Creagán is now in its third successful year working with schools across Northern Ireland. Our four day programme has been carefully developed and tailored to meet the requirements set out in the Revised Curriculum as well as the CEA’s Primary Values and Local and Global Citizenship documents.
We currently run three different Community Relations programmes detailed below.

Our aim at An Creagan is to develop strategies and lessons that embody the concept of Community relations, whilst encouraging greater commitment and ownership in the system. For the programme to be successful, we at An Creagan believe it should be part of a wider context, in that it should be reflected in many other areas of school life and should be evident outside the school perimeters. We have tried in this programme, to include democratic citizenship, underpinned by the concepts of social justice, democracy and human rights.

Upper KS 2- Beaghmore Programme
This is a four day programme with two school and two centre based visits. Lessons contained within include, Human Rights and Responsibilities, Democracy & Voting, Law & Order, Cultural Diversity, Conflict Resolution, Ethnic Diversity, and Gender and Stereotyping.
This programme is accompanied by a teacher’s handbook and children’s workbook available to download from this site.

Lower KS 2- Pumpernickel Park
This is the newest of our programmes and is aimed primarily at P4 &P5 children. This is a two day programme, one at the centre and the other in school. Children are encouraged to explore differences and similarities, question stereotypes, identify positive personal qualities and develop a sense of empathy.
Children are introduced to the issues through a wonderful story based around the very different characters in a storybook street. The programme includes story, discussion, games, art and design.

Key Stage 1 CR
This is a one day visit which can be based in school or at eh centre. Children are encouraged to make friends and work co-operatively on a variety of tasks and activities. This is a great programme for initial contact groups and has plenty of movement, music and art to allow children to have fun while they learn and interact.

Further details regarding cost, timings and availability is available on request from the centre’s Education Officer.
