Bog Studies

The practical bog study developed at An Creagan, allows for the first hand experience of a peatland. Pupils participating in the bog study, have the opportunity to see the variety of wildlife that lives on the bogs including frogs, dragonflies and the flesh eating sundew. Let the children conduct the Bog concert, use their third eye and see our unique bouncy castle. The field studies undertaken show the rich and varied habitat contained within the bog. They provide for the development of values, attitudes and skills and also help raise awareness and understanding of the natural and cultural heritage of our bogs and the need for their conservation.

Wellingtons and coats are essential.

Pond Studies

Children always enjoy a visit to the ponds at An Creagan, where they can view the different animals and plants that live there. Pond dipping for a Whirligig Beetle or Water Boatman never ceases to amaze children and the opportunity to catch the elusive Great Diving Beetle should not be missed. Children also learn about the food webs, which exist in the pond and how humans can affect these. This fascinating variety of life can be explored especially in Spring, Summer & Autumn.
